Advised Manchester United to sign Kylian Mbappe, Gabriel Jesus: Ryan Giggs

Ryan Giggs wanted United to sign Kylian Mbappe

Giggs continued to be on the touchline at the Theatre of Dreams, as he was later made Louis van Gaal's assistant in 2014, until current boss Jose Mourinho succeeded the Dutchman in 2016.

Giggs stressed that he watched Jesus for three years, while scouted the France worldwide for a year.

'I watched Gabriel Jesus play three years ago, ' Giggs told The Times.

Despite all the additions in the transfer market, United have not come even remotely close to matching the record and accomplishments of the Fergie golden years, when Giggs and Neville were players. "I was watching them with the scout and it was a no-brainer", Giggs told The Times. It would have been £5million or something - get them, loan them back.

The Brazil worldwide has become one of the most exciting and highly thought of talents in the Premier League during his time across town at Manchester City, while the Frenchman is set to finalise his £160m move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer following a 12-month loan spell with the Ligue 1 leaders.

The 29-year-old is still one of the Premier League's most consistent performers and United are reportedly considering making a £30 million bid to bring him back to Old Trafford in January, while City and Arsenal are also interested.

Giggs accepts it was a simple decision, Mourinho the seasoned manager in comparison, but the Welshman says that "it winds me up" to suggest he has no "experience as a manager".

"Not only that, but their best players work so hard when they've not got the ball as well".

"That was the way I played". I'm talking about Rafael [Da Silva], [Danny] Welbeck, Jonny Evans - players who are United through and through.

"They went for a victor, in José, a win-at-all-costs type of manager. I've spent my whole life in the Premier League - not just as a player but as a player-coach and assistant manager".

United could have snatched the points through a clear chance Romelu Lukaku missed before half-time, but the limited attacking intent shown marked a stark contrast to Pep Guardiola's swashbuckling Manchester City.
