Modi praises Sunni Board's stance on Ram Mandir hearing issue

Amit Shah asks Congress to clarify Kapil Sibal's stand in SC

Reacting swiftly to BJP president Amit Shah's allegations on the Congress's stand on Ram temple in Ayodhya, Randeep Surjewala and Pawan Khera, the national spokespersons of the Congress, said that the Congress stand on the Ram temple was similar to the BJP's - the readiness to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court.

The UP Sunni Wakf Board was quicker to dissociate itself from not just Sibal, but also Mehboob.

Earlier, Haji Mehboob from the Sunni Waqf Board, the petitioner in the case, clarified his stand on the issue by saying that the board has nothing to do with Sibal's statement even though he is representing them in the matter. Regarding the entire controversy, Sibal said that, " Will discussion on my going to the court & representing someone solve serious problems in the country?

Sibal on Supreme Court said that since the court's decision in the case would have "very serious ramifications", the hearing be deferred till July 2019 by which time the general election would be over.

In a fresh twist in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, the Sunni Waqf Board on Wednesday said that they differ with senior lawyer Kapil Sibal's arguments in the Supreme Court seeking postponement of hearing in the matter till the 2019 polls, saying they favour an immediate solution to the long-standing dispute.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi trained his guns at Kapil Sibal and the Congress and blamed Sibal for politicising the issue.

"We have got nothing to do with his statement as we are not connected to any political party or do politics". He, however, noted that the Congress has said the views expressed by Sibal, who represents the Sunni Waqf Board in the case in the Supreme Court, were his own. We want a solution to the issue at the earliest. "He is entitled to do that, but is it right for him to say postpone the hearing till 2019?"

Following this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah, in a press briefing, took a potshot at the Congress Party and its vice president, Rahul Gandhi, for adopting "double standard" in the matter.

"As far as Ram Mandir is concerned (Modiji), it will be built when Lord Ram wants it to be built", said Sibal. "They put many efforts to delay the hearing of the case", he said.

To a question on Sunni Waqf Board's position, Rehmani said that he has not had any talk with it in this regard.
