2 arrested in shooting outside Graham Kapowsin High School

Two male students were shot outside Graham-Kapowsin High School on Tuesday and Pierce County sheriff's deputies said they're looking for suspects.

Graham-Kapowsin High, Nelson Elementary and Frontier Middle School were all placed in in lockdown in the immediate aftermath, and Eatonville School District was placed in temporary modified lockdown as a precaution because of proximity to the high school. "One was in a parking lot of the football field".

Both wounded students were transported to Tacoma General Hospital, police said.

The shooting suspect fled the scene in a green auto that might be a Chevrolet Impala, police said. All three schools were locked down while deputies searched the buildings and grounds. Authorities said two students were shot near the school Tuesday afternoon.

As of Wednesday morning, two suspects were in custody and officials were still searching for a third according to the sheriff's office.

The shooting may be gang-related.

The shooting occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday outside of the school. The Sheriff's Department says the shots were reportedly fired on the Eustis Hunt Road side of the campus, which is the northwest end of the school's property. "We're going into lockdown".

"I was actually kinda calm because we've been trained since really early on to know what to do in these situations", said Graham-Kapowsin ninth-grader James Baker.

The angry parent also claimed that the 'kids in the Impala have gang ties'. The Bethel School District confirmed via a tweet the victims shot were indeed students from the school.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and students involved with this shooting today".

After deeming the campus secure, the sheriff's department and Bethel School District allowed students to be released.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office appealed for the public's help in identifying the two wanted suspects and tweeted that Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.
