Billy Bush outrage over Trump denial of 'grab them by the pussy'

Mike Pence Says Donald Trump Is 'Believer,' Grateful for Prayers and Support of Evangelical Christians

Appearing on CBS' "Late Show With Stephen Colbert", Bush reaffirmed that President Donald Trump did suggest that he grabbed women by the vagina and, in the face of a tsunami of sexual harassment claims, to claim that listening to the infamous tape is like a "a gut punch". On Monday, he voiced his concerns about Trump's denial of the tape on air, just hours after he penned a New York Times op-ed regarding the situation.

"You worked on the Today Show", Colbert told his guest, who was making his first late-night appearance in over a year.

"Last week, [Trump] for some reason came out with, 'That's not my voice on the tape.' Like I said, you can't say that".

"I said, ok, 'You're opening wounds on them, too". That is your voice. "I was there, you were there, that is your voice on the tape".

Bush was sacked from NBC in 2016 after being heard laughing on the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape featuring Donald TrumpDonald John TrumpDems resurface Flynn's "lock her up" comments after Mueller charges Congress must stop private prisons from receiving tax breaks Evangelicals were with Trump in 2016, and will be in 2020 MORE. I believe Bush when he says in the Times piece that he assumed Trump was exaggerating his sexual actions with women; that he was witnessing the public-image Donald Trump as opposed to the true man. We've got powerful people being held accountable now, and sometimes there's anonymous sources. "So when he said this ... it infuriated me on the personal front and then I ended up Googling and I read an article with all of these women's accounts - when that article came out it was 13 days after I was sacked so I was in my own personal shock - fight or flight - and so I never really read it all the way". "Let's take down a powerful guy together'". Haha!' No, they don't... "Stop playing around with people's lives".

Bush said he was confused as well.

"I think that the bus ride was the tip of the iceberg", he said. "The very day he was swearing in as the 45th president of the United States, I was checking in to this soul-searching retreat in St. Helena, Calif., nine days off the grid", Bush said. "It was the beginning of me saying get up and stop being sorry for yourself".

"It was 2005, and his ratings were through the roof and he was the big star of NBC".

"And he stuck - I'm going to say his finger - in this door hinge by denying this". "If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy to me, I would have called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not just reported it to my executive producer", he said.

"My [then] 15-year-old, Mary, called me from boarding school, and she was in tears: 'Dad, Dad, Dad, ' and I said, 'Everything is going to be fine, Mary".

Colbert askedBush about the apparent irony of NBC firing him for his role in the situation, but continuing to employ longtime "Today" host Matt Lauer. "I'm anxious that the dialogue isn't gonna be around, because we have all these [things], we get onto the next thing". As Bush told Colbert, "No question, I feel like I sacrificed a little bit of myself in the moment".
