FBI Removed Agent From Russia Probe for Anti-Trump Messages

Former FBI Director James Comey

On Saturday, Donald Trump took to Twitter to admit that he fired former national security advisor Michael Flynn for lying to Vice President Mike Pence and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Flynn was also told by a "very senior member" of Trump's transition team to contact Russian Federation and other foreign governments to try to influence them ahead of the vote, the prosecutors said. When Mr. Trump fired his F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, in May, he initially cited his handling of the Clinton email investigation as the reason for his dismissal.

Inspector general Michael Horowitz is leading a broader examination of the FBI's investigation of Clinton's emails. He has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

"He has pled guilty to those lies", Trump tweeted Saturday "It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful".

I mention this only because the revelation that an FBI agent, Peter Strzok, who supervised both the Hillary email investigation and the Trump-Russia probe sent anti-Trump text messages to his alleged mistress, an FBI lawyer, goes straight to the heart of many Americans' sense that the FBI should be fair and impartial, working with an eye on the bigger historical and legal picture, above the petty politics of the day. "There was nothing to hide!" Jeff Sessions. After Trump's election, Kislyak spoke by phone several times with Flynn in late December, and discussed sanctions put in place by the Obama administration.

After landing in New York City, Trump's motorcade drove near several hundred protesters decrying the tax bill and his administration's entanglement in the Russian Federation probe.

He was the FBI's lead investigator on the Clinton email investigation, so much so that he interviewed the former secretary of state on July 2, 2016.

The White House had no immediate response on Friday to requests for comment on Mr. Flynn's guilty plea.

Former FBI director James Comey told Congress in June that before he was sacked by Mr Trump in May, the President asked him to drop the part of the Russian Federation investigation that related to Mr Flynn.

As acting attorney general at the end of the Obama administration, Yates and another Justice Department official went to the White House on January 26 to warn White House counsel Don McGahn that Flynn was potentially compromised and vulnerable to blackmail because of discrepancies between the public accounting of the Kislyak conversation and what actually occurred.

"The OIG has been reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals, and will report its findings regarding those allegations promptly upon completion of the review of them", the inspector general's office said.
