Flynn guilty plea raises questions for Trump, Kushner

ABC’s fake news about Flynn & Russia causes stocks to crash

Say what you like about Flynn, but an ex-general follows the chain of command.

What has he admitted to?

Early on in is administration, Trump had taken a particular interest in the status of the Flynn investigation.

The retired US Army Lieutenant General was specifically accused of lying about a conversation he had with Kislyak concerning sanctions that then-US President Barack Obama imposed on Russian Federation in late December 2016.

"My guilty plea and agreement to co-operate with the Special Counsel's Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country".

How will he co-operate with the investigation?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has charged Flynn with "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the agency about his conversations with Russia's ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.

In October, Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign chairman, and Manafort's deputy Rick Gates were arrested on money laundering and tax-related charges in relation to their work for Moscow-backed Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych.

During Trump's transition to the White House, Flynn reportedly has a second meeting with Turkish government officials at the 21 Club, an upscale NY restaurant. His bombshell admission that he coordinated his calls with Kislyak with a senior transition official raises the specter that Mueller could bring charges against other current or former administration officials.

Court papers make clear that Flynn knows the identities of at least two members of Trump's transition team who were intimately aware of his outreach to Russian government officials in the weeks before the inauguration.

The action today by the Special Counsel is another indication of the thoroughness and professionalism of Robert Mueller and his team, who have been methodically working towards identifying and prosecuting potential criminal acts. At a time when tensions were hightened between the USA and Russia, Flynn was asked about whether he discussed sanctions against the country with the ambassador before he took office.

What were the conversations with the Russians about?

Flynn will say that Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians", flatly contradicting Trump's claim that he had nothing to do with Russia before or after his surprise election.

That is, undoubtedly, why Trump made his special plea to Comey in February, why Trump fired Comey and why the White House has circled the wagons against Mueller's Russiagate investigation.

A report from the Washington Post then said that Flynn has indeed discussed sanctions, reportedly causing rifts with senior colleagues who had defended him.

In the second statement Flynn made on December 22, 2016, Flynn denied asking a Russian Ambassador to delay or defeat a United Nations Security Council resolution.

At President Barack Obama's direction, the U.S. abstained from voting on the resolution, a rare move that allowed the UN Security Council to unanimously condemn Israeli's settlement activity. The rest of the 15-nation council, including Russian Federation, voted unanimously against Israel.

Israel was lobbying against the resolution and President-elect Trump's team spoke up on behalf of the Jewish state.
