White House official: Trump won't campaign for Roy Moore

Trump has no plans to campaign for Moore in Alabama

Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Judge Roy Moore listens to a question during a news conference on November 16 in Birmingham, Alabama.

"In my opinion, and in the opinion of many Republicans and conservatives in the Senate, it is time for us to turn the page because it is not about partisan politics".

Mr Trump attacked Mr Moore's Democratic opponent on Sunday.

Moore was accused by multiple women of pursuing them as teenagers when he was in his early 30s.

Jones, speaking to reporters in Birmingham, shrugged off Trump's criticisms, saying: "My record speaks for itself".

"I think you can flip this thing".

Jones, a former federal prosecutor, said he would be an independent voice in the US Senate, similarly to his political mentor, the late US Senator Howell Heflin, who represented the state for almost 20 years. "Roy Moore has been intensely scrutinized, and not a hint of scandal. but four weeks before the election, false allegations- a scheme by liberal elites and the Republican establishment to protect their big government trough", the ad's narrator said, according to The Hill.

Ivey's line of logic was remarkably similar to those who acknowledged Trump's inflammatory comments in October 2016 but said they still planned to support him because of the Supreme Court vacancy that awaited him. Moore had enjoyed a comfortable lead over Jones until allegations surfaced the former Alabama Chief Justice had improper sexual contact with teenage girls in the 1970s. Moore denied the allegations and claimed the story was planted by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
