Local church provides Thanksgiving baskets to the community

Holy Trinity Church In Hartford Offers A Thanksgiving Meal For Everyone

Renne Wolfe, St. Susan Center kitchen manager, said, prior to providing meals, that they were prepared to serve more than 200 meals on Thanksgiving.

He and his son-in-law delivered about a dozen meals to people across the community.

All the traditional holiday foods were served, including turkey, cranberries, corn, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, carrots, squash and pies, but in honor of the 30th anniversary, each guest got a dixie cup of ice cream.

"Thanksgiving is the ideal time of the year to do that; to thank God for all He's given you by helping someone else".

"We feel very blessed that we get to do this and to get to help out people in the community".

The Thanksgiving meal at the Monterey County Fairgrounds is always made from scratch, and this year, it took a little extra elbow grease to get dinner on the table.

"It's an important way for our community to come together, not only to eat together, but also to contribute", he said.

"We send a letter out to people that have donated in the past around this time of year and what the community donates each year through that makes up the bulk of funding throughout the years", Ackerman explained.

"We have a 1-year-old".

"A mixture of all kinds of people that just want to come for the camaraderie and socializing", said Duane Ehrens, a Basin Electric food service coordinator who volunteered to prepare turkeys.

Another Community Thanksgiving Dinner is in the books, and like all the rest, no one went away hungry on Thursday.

"I enjoy helping people".

Woodson said she works long hours in Strasburg at the Hotel Strasburg and her parents live in Fairfax.

As the dinner has grown in popularity, Stewart said First Presbyterian needed help with meal preparation because of a lack of space.

Volunteers began checking in early Thursday getting their assignments for Thanksgiving lunch. "My only regret is that I don't have 50 more years to do this, but that's alright".

"Took the breath out of me for a minute - then it was time to move on", she said before pausing at the Twin City Mission Thanksgiving lunch.

"It's a project that I dearly love", he said.

He was working on Thanksgiving but decided to make a quick pit stop at the church for a turkey meal.

"We're together, and we're not sleeping in a auto no more", she said.

"It's a wonderful time of year", Calder said.
