Hafiz Saeed Issues A Video Threatening India Immediately After His Release

The order to release Hafiz Saeed is likely to push India Pakistan relations into deeper freeze

Soon after his release from house arrest, Jama'at-ud-Da'wah (JuD) chief, Hafiz Saeed has vowed to work for the "freedom of Kashmir".

India on Thursday said it was outraged that a Pakistani judicial panel had recommended the release from house arrest of Hafiz Saeed, head of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group and the man accused by India of being the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Speaking on the Kulbhusan Yadav case, Raveesh Kumar said that there was a long standing request from Jadhav's mother to visit Pakistan to meet her son and India has responded positively to the offer by Pakistan to arrange meeting of Kulbhushan Jadhav with his wife.

Saeed was also individually designated by the United Nations under UNSCR 1267 (UN Security Council Resolution) in December 2008 following the Mumbai attacks in November 2008.

He said the government's lawyers had repeatedly argued in court that Saeed was a threat to public safety and that his release could lead to global penalties for Pakistan for not moving against terrorism financing.

The Pakistan Punjab government had sought a further three-month extension for Saeed's detention, but it was rejected on grounds that no sufficient evidence has been provided by the authorities. The Lahore High Court had ordered today the release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed.

"Saeed was also individually designated by the United Nations under UNSCR 1267 (UN Security Council Resolution) in December 2008 following the November 2008 Mumbai attack", the official said.

Dogar alleged that the government had placed Saeed under house arrest to oblige the US.

On Wednesday (November 22), exactly four days before the ninth anniversary of the deadly terror attacks, the Lahore High Court in Pakistan made a decision to set free Saeed. "He was put under house arrest in January 2017 after years of living freely in Pakistan".

The JuD is believed to be the front organisation for the banned LeT which is responsible for carrying out the Mumbai attacks. An official said that the activities of JuD are "already under scanner and action in regard was taken many times in the past but this time we will do so again".
