Brian Bowen Not Allowed to Play at Louisville, Can Transfer

Louisville bans Brian Bowen from playing allowed to transfer elsewhere

Bowen will be provided with written permission to contact another college institution if he wishes to transfer.

Head coach Rick Pitino was sacked last month as a result of the investigation, along with assistant coach Jordan Fair, associate head coach Kenny Johnson, and athletic director Tom Jurich.

"Brian has been a responsible young man for the institution since he enrolled", said Louisville interim athletic director Vince Tyra.

That player was believed to be Bowen. Former head coach Rick Pitino was officially fired five days later.

Bowen was cleared of any wrongdoing after an FBI investigation into corruption and bribery in Louisville's basketball program revealed an assistant coach at the school paid Bowen's father $100,000 from Adidas to sign with the school.

"We got lucky on this one", Pitino told Terry Meiners of News Radio 840.

Brian Bowen's Louisville career is over before it started. I said "Yeah, I'd be really interested".

Bowen, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Saginaw, Mich., was a five-star prospect coming out of high school. But Louisville still fired the two-time national champion last month.

Gatto and his fellow defendants were indicted and accused of facilitating the bribe in order to persuade Bowen to attend Louisville.

Johnson, placed on administrative leave on October 6, spent three years with the program. It's unclear at this point if Bowen will look to transfer, or pursue professional opportunities.
