Amazon Australia pre-launch selling test starts on Thursday

Amazon has notified its sellers that it will begin testing on Thursday

Whilst numerous papers are breathlessly announcing the launch for this Thursday, it is definitely invite only to Amazon Australia customers. This is likely to limit the company's ability to offer Amazon Prime Shipping services in the short to medium term.

"Once you have passed Seller Identity Verification you will be part of this testing phase and you should be prepared to receive orders from this point onward ..." How long the closed test phase will last for we don't know - One might take the regular "updates via email" to mean a launch is imminent and to expect regular nearly hourly emails for a Black Friday launch or one could equally guess that the emails will be spread over a number of days and there won't be a launch this week. Let's Make History!' Amazon declares in the email.

Amazon's products will be a mix of those it's acquired directly from suppliers and manufacturers and prices accordingly itself, and those that will be retailed by third-party sellers who will be using Amazon's platform to fulfil the transaction.

It looks like Amazon will be launching for Black Friday after all.

Amazon has told its local marketplace partners it plans to launch its Australian offering this Thursday at 2pm, according to a source familiar with the matter.

"Technology products are anticipated to be the highest selling category for Amazon, which will disrupt the electronic goods industry". Even though geographically it is as big as the USA, population density and the distribution of big cities is not the same as in the US, so shipping could be a challenge for the company, notes CNET.

The News Daily reports that it will be a soft launch on Thursday, followed by an official launch on Friday, just in time for Black Friday promotions.

'Amazon is definitely going to make a dent with the novelty and the buzz factor in the lead-up to Christmas, ' Mr Kilmartin said.

On Tuesday, Amazon shares closed up 1.17% at $1,139.49.
