5 former Broncos named semifinalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Pro Football Hall of Fame: Ex-Wolverines Steve Hutchinson, Ty Law semifinalists

Along with the San Francisco 49ers Roger Craig, James was the only other running back among this year's semifinalist group. Six of the semifinalists are first-year eligible candidates, including former Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson. A self-proclaimed "freelance safety", he helped redefine the safety position, notching 26 sacks and 37 forced fumbles in his career, becoming one of five players in National Football League history to record at least 30 interceptions and 20 sacks in a career. Owens is fifth all-time in touchdown catches (153) and eighth in career receptions (1,078). He's a member of both the Bucs Ring of Honor and the Broncos Ring of Fame. Urlacher was Rookie of the Year in 2000. He also finished just 2nd behind the St. Louis Rams Marshall Faulk in most single season yards from scrimmage with 2,139 such yards as a rookie.

Ty Law was one of the marquee cornerbacks of the 2000s, reaching five Pro Bowls.

Two former Dolphins - linebacker Zach Thomas and offensive tackle Richmond Webb - did not make Tuesday's cut from 108 to 27. The Dolphins defeated the Colts 21-13.

Four previously eligible players made the semifinals for the first time: LeRoy Butler, Leslie O'Neal, Simeon Rice and Everson Walls. "He doesn't so much cut as he stops on a dime and then takes off again at full speed". The exception is Colts' running back Frank Gore, who's still active and perched at No. 7. "Even when you got him, he could wiggle his way for another two or three yards".

It's not a matter of if, but when for James. On Feb. 3 in the Twin Cities, on the eve of the Super Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium, between four and eight hall of fame inductees will be announced.

Barber is in the first year of Hall of Fame eligibility.
