Redskins' Chris Thompson Carted Off After Suffering Brutal Leg Injury

Saints win a thriller in overtime against Redskins

Unfortunately for Thompson though, he will likely not play again this season, even if the Redskins make the playoffs, as his leg had to be fitted with an air cast before he was carted to the locker room.

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson could be out for some time after picking up a rather nasty injury during his team's game against the New Orleans Saints.

After losing the toss for OT, the Saints forced a punt and drove 51 yards in three plays for the winning field goal.

The only touchdown not involving Cousins from Washington, Samaje Perine punched in a score from 1-yard out. Cousins was also injured on the play but he was able to return to the field. Thompson was engaged in a block and had his right leg bend back after he got caught in an awkward position under Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins.

It didn't help matters that the defense was without middle linebacker A.J. Klein and safety Kenny Vaccaro, both inactive, and cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury. The kick was set up by two huge Mark Ingram runs, the first for 20 yards and the second for 31 yards.

The Saints drew within 24-16 with 9:19 to play in the game on a 42-yard field goal by Lutz.

When the Washington Redskins scored with 5:58 remaining in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass to a wide-open Jeremy Sprinkle, it gave Washington a 31-16 lead.

Nope. The Saints stormed all the way back.
