AC/DC's Malcom Young Dead at 64

ACDC: Malcolm Young Cliff Williams Phil Rudd Brian Johnson and Angus Young

Young was a visionary rhythm guitarist, who also served as the band's backing vocalist and songwriter. Young had been battling dementia for three years and was replaced by his nephew, Stevie Young, in the 2015 AC/DC world tour. Angus is still with the band and appeared on their latest tour, the Rock or Bust trek.

AC/DC plans to create a memorial website at which fans can send messages to Malcolm Young's survivors, including his wife, O'Linda; children, Cara and Ross; son-in-law, Josh; three grandchildren; and his sister and brother.

Malcolm's family have asked for "privacy" at this very saddening time, and have requested that fans who wish to pay their respects should do so by donating to the Salvation Army charity.

"The family have asked instead of flowers to send donations to The Salvation Army".

His death comes just weeks after his older brother, George, passed away aged 70.

AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young is Dead at 64

Angus Young may have received a bunch of attention as lead guitar on his on-stage antics, but make no mistake that a big part of AC/DC's sound is thanks to Malcolm Young's chugging, powerful rhythm guitar.

They began national touring in 1974 with singer Dave Evans. He died at the age of 64.

"Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young", AC/DC wrote in a statement.

Malcolm "leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever", the band said.

The commentary for the entry was written by legendary music producer and co-president of Columbia Records Rick Rubin, who wrote, "Nothing gets in the way of the push-and-pull between the guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young, bassist Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd".
