Apple delays release of HomePod speaker until early 2018

Apple's HomePod delayed until next year

The smart speaker was due to launch in the US, UK, and Australia in December 2017, having been announced back in June alongside the iMac Pro at WWDC. It comes with built-in smart assistant like you find on Google Home and Amazon Echo.

What Apple claims makes the speaker really stand out from the crowd of networked home assistant speakers is its sound quality: The device sonically asses the room it's in, and adjusts the speakers so that the sound best fills each individual space that it occupies.

It's unclear what has caused the delay, however it's likely that the hold-up has been caused within production. It will now go on sale in early 2018, Apple said. Where Apple does fall short is providing a smart experience with Siri. Google and Apple, two companies that lead the mobile technological front, both have plans to bring their most powerful smart speakers to the market this holiday season; however, it seems Apple's metaphorical pie needs a little more time in the oven.

HomePod is created to work with an Apple Music subscription and iPhone 5s and above running iOS 11.

Apple issued an official statement to TechCrunch and other news outlets today saying that the release of the HomePod would be delayed until 2018. You can stream other services to it from a smartphone, but not with Siri. HomePod will work with Apple's HomeKit platform to control smart-home devices.
