Pakistan allows Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet wife

Pakistan claims its security forces arrested Kulbhushan Jadhav from restive Balochistan province on 3 March last year after he reportedly entered from Iran

Pakistan's foreign office in the national capital said it would allow Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet his wife.

"A Note Verbale to this effect has been sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, today", he said, adding that the meeting will take place on Pakistani soil. It repeated its charge that Jadhav is aRAW agent and was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies on March 3, 2016 after he illegally crossed over into Pakistan.

The press release uploaded on Pakistan's foreign ministry website states that Jadhav has "confessed" in a Pakistani court "that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organise espionage, terrorist and sabotage activities aimed at destabilizing and waging war against Pakistan".

On April 10, 2017, Jadhav was sentenced to death by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) in Pakistan. The International Court of Justice, in May, halted his execution on India's appeal on in the international platform. India had requested for a visa for Jadhav's mother, Avantika, who wanted to meet her son in Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly rejected India's request for a consular access.

On May 18, the ICJ put a stay on Jadhav's death sentence, saying that Pakistan could not execute the Indian national until the world court further heard the matter and decided whether Islamabad had indeed violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Access. The court had fixed 13 June, 13 September and 13 December as dates for India to file its documents and for Pakistan to file counter-documents. Pakistan will be producing its memorial next month. The Indian government refuted Pakistan's allegations as it said he was kidnapped from Iran where he had gone for some work related to his business. On October 11, Pakistan had designated former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani to the ICJ to be its Judge in Jadhav's case.
