First Look At New Doctor Who For Season 11

The Doctor will see you now! BBC unveils FIRST LOOK at glam Jodie Whittaker as the new Time Lord... as she struts sultrily away from the TARDIS across a sunlit meadow

Naturally, since Whittaker is the first woman in the role, her outfit is another new step for the programme. The stripe across her shirt instantly makes me think of Colin Baker's 6th Doctor coat and Tom Baker's 4th Doctor scarf. Lifelong Star Wars fan and Trekker who also worships all things Tolkien and Doctor Who. However, the photo reveals more than just Whittaker's costume; it hints that the next era of Doctor Who will be a lot brighter, more colorful, and possibly more optimistic. "Maybe that she remembers how much she used to love suspenders during her 11th incarnation".

This costume is uniquely her own, a true departure from the modern series' suits in muted colors.

Details of the new series are being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, but it has been announced that Jodie's Doctor will have three companions in the TARDIS this time around.

"It's more than an honour to play the Doctor", Whittaker told the BBC about being selected earlier in the summer. "New look!" the official Doctor Who Twitter account wrote, with BBC America's Doctor Who account posting an identical tweet.

Beyond that, reactions have ranged from hating Jodie Whittaker's look to the thought that it might be an in-joke that will be addressed in the series. And a British army captain seemingly destined to die in the First World War, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor's story.

Indeed, that long jacket is very reminiscent of the Tenth Doctor's (#DavidTennant) billowing coat.

Whittaker takes over from the exiting Peter Capaldi, whose last stand (and Whittaker's first) will be a Doctor Who Christmas Special this Christmas.
