Weinstein hired private investigators to Spy on accusers

Weinstein, who has been accused of sexual harassing and assaulting numerous different women throughout his decades in Hollywood, reportedly contracted these security firms "to stop the publication of the abuse allegations", Farrow writes.

Waxman has reported that Weinstein and Boies met with top editors at the Times in 2004, perhaps to pressure the paper to spike her story.

In related news, the Television Academy, which among other things gives out the Emmys, voted Monday to expel Weinstein and ban him for life, reports Variety. Weinstein is primarily known as a film producer but his former company is also responsible for hit television series such as "Project Runway". They also reportedly tried, in this guise, to befriend the actress Rose McGowan, who has said that Weinstein raped her.

Ronan Farrow - who wrote the original New Yorker expose on Weinstein and happens to be Woody Allen's son - states that Weinstein hired private security firms to gather information on anyone who might expose him.

'In other cases, journalists directed by Weinstein or the private investigators interviewed women and reported back the details'.

Former Hollywood bigwig Harvey Weinstein hired private firms staffed by former intelligence operatives to investigate and squash allegations of sexual harassment against him.

The companies that Weinstein used were Kroll - a corporate investigation and risk consulting firm based in Manhatten - as well as Black Cube, a Tel Aviv-based intelligence firm whose leaders include former officers of the leading spy agency in Israel.

Investigations targeted Farrow and New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor, as well as New York's Ben Wallace, who had been contacted by the same agent as McGowan and eventually dropped his investigation after he couldn't get actresses to go on the record with statements.

His representative Sallie Hofmeister did not immediately return an email seeking comment. McGowan's growing sense that she was being spied upon by operatives who initially struck her as friendly people deepened her sense of paranoia. "We should not have been contracting with and paying investigators that we did not select and direct", he said.

"Everyone lied to me all the time".

A number of studies that, in New York, Los Angeles and London, now aim directly, that over 90 women have taken the word to testify to acts ranging from harassment, to sexual assault, up to rape, the case of Weinstein has just taken a new turn. Howard told Farrow that he needed to seek out, but not publish, "information about people who Weinstein insisted were making false claims against him". McGowan told Farrow that the persistence of "Diana Filip" among other intimidation tactics made her feel insane, and Annabella Sciorra said it made it all the more hard to finally come forward. "If evidence could be uncovered to convince The Times the charges should not be published, I did not believe, and do not believe, that that would be averse to The Times' interest", Boies told The New Yorker.

A prominent Democratic lawyer representing Harvey Weinstein worked to crush an explosive New York Times story about his conduct while simultaneously representing the paper.
