Ex-Syracuse Chiefs pitcher Roy Halladay dies in plane crash

Roy Halladay, a two-time Cy Young Award victor who pitched a ideal game and a playoff no-hitter, died Tuesday when his private plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

"He was one in a million".

Halladay's ICON A5 plane went down just after noon in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday. The Pasco County Marine Unit and Swiftwater Response Team responded to the scene. No survivors were found.

According to ICON Aircraft, a consumer sport plane manufacturer, Halladay was passionate about flying his entire life but was contractually not allowed to get his pilot's license while he was an Major League Baseball player. "Flying really low and you could just tell it was going down", she said of the plane".

"We recovered one body", Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco announced late Tuesday afternoon. He then pitched four seasons for the Phillies and won another Cy Young Award there in 2010.

Halladay is survived by his wife Brandy and their have two sons, Ryan and Braden.

Halladay, a star with the Phillies from 2010-2013, recently tweeted photos of himself flying.
