Azerbaijani, Russian and Iranian presidents to meet in Tehran today

Russia's Putin arrives in Iran

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that Tehran and Moscow must step up cooperation to isolate the United States and help stabilize the Middle East, state TV reported.

US President Donald Trump has refused to confirm whether his government will comply with the agreement and has threatened a harder line on Iran, which the US suspects has been seeking to build a nuclear bomb.

"We have evaluated the security situation in the region in details, discussed the issues related to the Iranian nuclear deal and, of course, focused on the situation in Syria".

The US leader's decision not to certify the deal has been opposed by the other global powers that signed off on it as they insist the agreement is working. "We are able to agree our positions on the Syrian issues", the Russian leader said, according to Sputnik.

"No one is paying attention to the Americans' rhetoric", Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpur said Tuesday.

Tehran signed the deal with six countries including Russian Federation and the United States, but Trump last month refused to certify the agreement, drawing criticism from Moscow which slammed the USA president's "aggressive and threatening rhetoric" against Iran. Our cooperation can isolate the United States.

During Putin's visit, Russian oil producer Rosneft and the National Iranian Oil Company agreed an outline deal to work on a number of "strategic" projects in Iran together worth up to $30 billion.

"There are some opposed to close and brotherly relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and we should stand up to their temptations and acts of sabotage and boost cooperation in different sectors with double will and motivation", the Leader said.

Also, Putin hailed Iran-Russia cooperation in the war against terrorism in Syria, calling for "a suitable political process to be considered in the Arab country". On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized "unpredictable" US behavior, citing the refusal to uphold the Iranian agreement and threats to use force to resolve the crisis on the Korean peninsula.

Aliyev opened a similar rail project on Monday that links the Azeri capital, Baku, to Turkey via Georgia, offering a transport corridor to move goods between China and Europe through central Asia, in competition with existing routes through Russian Federation and Iran.
