At least seven Palestinians killed in Israeli strike at tunnel in Gaza

Palestinian protesters clash with Israeli security forces near the Jewish settlement of Beit El near the West Bank city of Ramallah

The tunnel was discovered on October 15 by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, which runs the school, and Israeli authorities were notified, the UNRWA said in a statement released Saturday. The same source reported that nine others were injured, including one that is in critical condition.

But the Hamas military wing said one of its members was killed in a rescue effort. Palestinian Islamic Jihad leaders called the explosion a "declaration of war" and said "the ceasefire is over".

Following the meeting, Mitzna told Israel Broadcast Corporation (Kan) that Abbas has "proven that he is a partner for peace" and said that PA security forces are working diligently to scuttle terror attacks against Israelis in Judea and Samaria.

The operation followed an announcement Sunday by UNRWA, the United Nations agency tasked with aiding Palestinian refugees, which said it had found a tunnel under a school it operates in the Gaza Strip.

Israel is using sophisticated measures to thwart tunnels dug by militants.

Mitzna also criticized Israel for consistently ramping up requirements for talks/agreement, and said he didn't bring up the issue of official payouts from the Palestinian Authority to the families of terrorists.

The IDF said the tunnel ran from the Gazan city of Khan Younis, crossed under the border, and approached the Israeli community of Kibbutz Kissufim. The IDF said that it was still under active construction by Hamas at the time of demolition.

The prime minister said Israel holds Hamas responsible for all military action against Israel emanating from the Gaza Strip and "whoever hurts us, we hurt them".

Israel is building a huge barrier along its border with Gaza aimed at preventing militants tunnelling underneath it.

Despite an assassination attempt on Hamas's internal security chief Tawfiq Abu Naim on Friday, the terror group says it will continue to abide by the Cairo agreement and hand over control of Gaza's border crossing to the PA on Wednesday.
