Winx is the Cox Plate victor

Winx will be back at Moonee Valley on Saturday to try and win her third Cox Plate

In joining Kingston Town as a three-time victor of Australia's most prestigious weight-for-age race, Winx also took her sequence to 22 consecutive victories yesterday.

Chris Waller reported Winx emerged from her historic Cox Plate three-peat in fine order, the champion mare enjoying a trip to the beach on Sunday morning. She took her earnings past $15.5 million Australian (about $11.9 million), which is more than three-time Melbourne Cup victor Makybe Diva's Australian prize-money record of $14.5 million Australian.

Regular pilot Hugh Bowman said Winx's place in racing folklore was now assured.

"I was born the year Kingston Town won his first Cox Plate and to think that she's emulated the great, it's incredible".

'She's a great horse and it's a privilege for me and my family to be part of this'. I don't know if there is a right way to train Winx or not, but one thing I'll tell you is she'll rise to any challenge you give her.

"She's unbeaten for nearly three years now and I'd be lying if I said I didn't go to bed at night thinking of her record".

"It wasn't an easy victory, she had to be good to fight Humidor", Winx's trainer Chris Waller said after the race.

Winx began to improve her position from the 900m and had the lead on the turn with Humidor the only horse giving chase.

And she didn't disappoint, out-classing all opposition in the race. We will just look at her and see how she has recovered.

Waller said whatever future plans he had for Winx, she would only run if he felt she was at her very best.

Winx has won the Cox Plate for a third consecutive time.

"I'm not there myself but Jo Taylor and the staff said she's fantastic so that was music to my ears".

"Fortunately we got the upper hand and yeah, well done to the connections of all runners". I've been one of the many people up in the stand admiring this race and admiring the history of this race and Australian sport, so it's very humbling to be on the other side looking at everybody.

Lucky Hussler is trained at Weir's Warrnambool base and the leading trainer was expecting a good showing at his fourth run of the campaign.

"She does love it here, there's no doubt about that", he said.
