Olivia Colman to succeed Claire Foy in The Crown on Netflix

It’s not Colman’s first rodeo with the royals. She portrayed our present Queen’s mother in the film Hyde Park On Hudson. It’s about when George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited President Franklin Roosevelt in 1

Olivia Colman has been announced as the successor to Claire Foy in the hit Netflix show, 'The Crown'.

Ms Colman will start filming series three next year, but the shows won't air on Netflix until 2019. She also won a Golden Globe award and Screen Actors Guild award as Best Actress in a Drama. The third and fourth outings of The Crown have not been officially ordered, but early production is said to be already underway. So Colman might be the latest Elizabeth, but she likely won't be the last.

Foy portrayed the younger matriarch in the first season and the forthcoming second.

Besides this, Colman also played a significant role in several acclaimed series including The Broadchurch, Fleabag and The Night Manager.

Quite a few films and TV series have been dedicated to recreating the life of Queen Elizabeth II, but very few have been as successful as The Crown. "You can't ask someone to act middle-aged".

The lavish biographical drama series, created by Peter Morgan and which also stars Matt Smith as Prince Philip, John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret and Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother, debuted previous year.

The first trailer for Season 2 was released in August, with writer Peter Morgan teasing that Lord Snowdon is set to play a key role in the show's second chapter. She has starred as the Queen Mother in Hyde Park on Hudson, and as Queen Anne in The Favourite. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it.

Series creator Peter Morgan has always said that he meant to replace key cast members in later seasons, to better portray the main characters as they age. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds. The Crown season 2 will arrive on Netflix on December 8.
