MI teens charged in rock-throwing death were playing 'dinging' game

5 teens to be charged with murder after man killed by thrown rock on I-75

This is not the first case of rocks being thrown from an overpass by teens to gain national attention.

The suspects' families, as well as White's family, were present in court as Judge Crawford denied the teens bail, citing "the seriousness of the nature of these charges and the danger to the public".

Kenneth White was killed after a group of teens threw a rock off of a highway overpass, hitting the vehicle he was riding in. "I don't believe this was a deliberate act to take somebody's life", explained Leyton.

"I don't think anybody is laughing and I think that if there's any warning that both David and I can give, is telling young people, you make a bad decision, you could be spending the rest of your life in prison".

Five teenagers have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with White's death, Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton, announced Monday, according to the Associated Press. The others were arrested.

Alexander Miller, 15, Mikadyn Payne, 16, Trevor Gray, 15, Mark Sekelsky, 16 and Kyle Anger, 17, each entered a plea of not guilty, as reported by The Washington Post. The rocks, one of which weighed 20 pounds, reportedly struck several cars.

White, a construction worker and father of a 5-year-old son, was heading home in a van driven by a friend about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The stone smashed through the windshield before hitting Mr White in the face then ricocheting into his chest, Robert Pickell, Genesee County Sheriff, told ABC News.

White, who lived in Mount Morris Township, enjoyed sports, video games and the outdoors, according to an obituary, which said he was born in nearby Flint but lived in SC for most of his life.

Pickell did not say whether anyone was injured in that incident. The van was traveling south on I-75 at about 70 miles per hour when it approached the Dodge Road overpass, where the concrete fell on the vehicle from the overpass.

Pickell said this was a case in which "nobody wins". "The young people are charged criminally, a young boy lost his father and all of the families are left grieving", said Pickell.

Prosecutors have said Kyle Anger was the teen who tossed the rock that killed White.
