Two dead at university in Louisiana; shooter at large

Grambling state University

Police are hunting for the person who shot and killed a student and another man early Wednesday morning at Louisiana's Grambling State University, officials said. The spokesman for Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office, Stephen Williams, said, "We're interviewing witnesses".

Earl Andrews, a 23-year-old senior, and his friend Monquiarious Caldwell, also 23, were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Washington Post.

Based on preliminary information gathered at the scene, the shooting followed an altercation, which started inside one of the dormitories, said Williams.

The altercation happened in the courtyard between two Grambling dorm buildings, Grambling State University media relations director Will Sutton told CBS News.

The other victim, Monquiarius Caldwell, from Farmerville was not a student at the University, Sutton said.

The incident occurred as the university, a historically black college with about 4,500 students, celebrates its Homecoming this week.

"Our prayers go out to the victims and their families", Sutton said. "Violence has no place on our campus. This is a most unfortunate situation".

The university in northern Louisiana has an enrollment of almost 5,000 students.

After the shooting, the university tweeted that the campus offices are open Wednesday and that "students are expected to attend class as scheduled".
