Amazon's home invasion continues with Amazon Key

Once setup, you get live view of the deliveries to your home, as well as notifications that they are happening.

This morning Amazon announced a new service called Key.

There's just one big catch - you need to trust Amazon to wirelessly unlock your front door to let your deliveryman or woman into your home without you there.

It's not the first major retailer to experiment with remote delivery access.

As if its line of Echo, Alexa and Dash devices wasn't pervasive enough, Amazon has developed another gadget created to infiltrate the home: Amazon Key, which via a connected security camera and smart lock can enable couriers to leave packages inside your home.

The world's biggest internet business organization on Wednesday uncovered another delivery service that gives clients a chance to get bundles inside their homes.

Prime members can pre-order one (or several) right now.

Amazon offers a few caveats, such as advising pet owners not to use in-home delivery if a pet can reach the front door. The Amazon Key In-Home Kit, which includes Cloud Cam (Key Edition) and a compatible smart lock, is available exclusively to Prime members.

Amazon delivery employees aren't given a passcode to enter the home; rather they request access into the home, and Amazon's records verify that the employee is at the right address at the right time. And with the option requiring a specific camera that it sells, the move helps Amazon tie customers even closer to its gadgets as well as the items it delivers. And, in the coming months, Amazon Key will provide customers with easy and convenient professional service scheduling with thousands of providers. The Amazon Key platform could eventually be integrated with thousands of providers - from dog walkers to house cleaners - letting you schedule appointments without worrying about giving someone a physical key. Walmart's grocery option is being done in partnership with August Home, a tech company that works on home security. The service will initially be available in 37 cities starting November 8. $249 is a reasonable price for a 1080p smart home security camera with night vision and the accompanying smart lock (which includes a keypad and traditional keyhole).

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking.

Cloud Cam works seamlessly with Alexa on Echo Show, Echo Spot, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Fire tablets.
