Viral video of man being dragged from United flight get officers fired

Two Aviation Officers Fired, Two Suspended For Dragging Doctor Off United Flight

A violent altercation followed as officers tried to remove him, leaving other fliers visibly and audibly shocked. The third officer was accused of making "material omissions in a report regarding the first" officer's forceful removal of Dr. Dao.

Airport security officials who were caught on video in April forcibly removing a passenger from a United Airlines flight in Chicago have been disciplined. It was also revealed that a supervisor was sacked after the deliberate removal of facts from an employee report.

Two officers who dragged a doctor from a U.S. flight have been fired while a third resigned, officials say.

The city of Chicago conducted an internal investigation on police behavior at the origin of this incident, and announced that two of the four officers involved had been dismissed while the other two had been suspended for five days.

In a report obtained by the Chicago Tribune, the city's Office of Inspector General determined that three aviation security officers and an aviation security sergeant "mishandled" the situation that grabbed national headlines.

Roughly six months ago, the video, which would later become known as the "United incident", captured a 69-year-old man being dragged off a plane because the airline overbooked the flight. There is "significant confusion" about the role that unarmed aviation security officers play in the layers of security that protect O'Hare and Midway Airports.

Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans also has moved to force airport security officers to remove the word "police" from their uniforms and vehicles in the wake of the incident.

The incident proved to be a PR disaster for United Airlines and the management headed by Oscar Munoz, who is the CEO, were forced to offer a public apology and begin an investigation into the embarrassing incident. In addition, passengers on the flight, which was delayed about three hours, received refunds. He was joined by the passenger's daughter.

Dao suffered a concussion, a broken now and lost two teeth in the scuffle. He would need reconstructive surgery for damaged sinuses, Demetrio added. The settlement included an agreement not to seek damages from beleaguered Chicago taxpayers.

"I hope he becomes a poster child for all of us", lawyer Thomas Demetrio said at that news conference.
