Pakistan EC issues non-bailable warrant against Imran Khan

Non-Bailable warrant issued against PTI chief Imran Khan

Earlier in the day, the ECP had issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Imran in relation to a contempt of court case against him.

Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Khurshid Shah on Thursday has advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan to appear in Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the next hearing.

Following this, the Bench has ordered authorities to arrest Imran Khan and present him before the commission on Oct 26.

The petitioner alleged that Khan received almost $3 million in foreign funds that were collected through two offshore companies.

Last month, the cricketer-turned-politician had submitted a reply with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a contempt of court.

The PTI rejected the electoral body's order to arrest their party chief, terming the move "illegal".

Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said that in contempt of court case, the issuance of nonbailable arrest warrant against Imran Khan is infringement and transgression of the law. This warrant has been issued for failing to appear in the court repeatedly and not giving a written justification or apology to the court for not appearing despite various letters.

In the hearing headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza, the ECP suspended proceedings as soon as they began and the members reconvened in the chambers.

The scandal led to Sharif's disqualification and opening of multiple corruption cases against him in July this year.
