Donald Trump tweet suggests that FCC should take NBC off the air

Trump, long obsessed with nuclear weapons, wants 28000 more

NBC reported that Trump "said he wanted what amounted to a almost tenfold increase in the USA nuclear arsenal during a gathering this past summer of the nation's highest-ranking national security leaders".

Shortly after Trump spoke, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis issued a two-sentence statement saying the news report was false and irresponsible.

President Donald Trump told the nation's highest ranking security leaders this past summer that he wanted to increase the USA nuclear arsenal by almost 10 times, according to a new report Wednesday.

It was also reported, soon after the meeting ended, one of the officials heard Tillerson say Trump is a "moron".

President Donald Trump is renewing his feud with NBC News, and this time he's raising the possibility of challenging broadcasting licensing for broadcast outlets.

The pair of tweets came just before the president was scheduled to receive his daily intelligence briefing, according to a calendar the White House send reporters overnight. We won't need an increase but I want modernisation and I want total rehabilitation. "Right now we have so many nuclear weapons I want them in flawless condition, ideal state".

Mr. Trump said that NBC News' reporting is "Pure fiction, made up to demean" and compared it to CNN, which he has previously also criticized and labeled as "fake news".

While Trump's relationship with the press likely represent a new low among presidents in the modern era, there are parallels.

Trump's morning tweets came after NBC News reported that Trump purportedly told senior national security advisers during a meeting last summer that he favored what amounted to almost a tenfold increase in nuclear weapons.

Trump again called the report "fake news" and added that such an increase in the nuclear arsenal was "totally unnecessary".

Mr Trump was quick to denounce the latest NBC story in an early morning tweet: "Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a "tenfold" increase in our US nuclear arsenal".

"It's frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write, and people should want to look into it", Trump fumed as he met his Canadian counterpart in the Oval Office.

The news comes at a time when Trump is expected within days to declare that Iran is not fulfilling its obligations under a 2015 anti-nuclear-proliferation deal it made with the Obama administration.
