Amazon's new Kindle Oasis gives you the ultimate e-reading experience

Amazon's New Kindle Oasis Syncs Audible With Kindle And Safely Works In The Bath

Amazon has unveiled its first waterproof Kindle Oasis e-reader, which takes its place on the top end of the Kindle spectrum with a list price starting at $249.99.

While the new waterproofing is no doubt much-appreciated, the most important aspect of any Kindle is of course the display. Sure, it's flirted with larger screens, most notably with the massive Kindle DX, but six inches has always been the sweet spot for both Amazon and much of the competition. For years, we've been wondering why Amazon hasn't done more to support Audible for Kindle fans. Amazon has also added a new feature to invert black and white colours on the display, which would be helpful for readers who suffer from light sensitivity. The battery bulges along the back, creating a hand grip, and there are page turn buttons on the front. The big change this time is the larger 7-inch screen, which Amazon says can hold 30 percent more text than before. At it's thinnest point it measures an impressive 3.4mm.

While the design is similar to the 2016 model, including that asymmetrical sidebar you can use either left or right-handed, this time the e-reader is made from one seamless piece of aluminum.

You may also recall that last year's entry-level Kindle (generation 8) came with Bluetooth audio support out of the box. That's why Amazon is also offering a 32GB version.

Ergonomically created to rest in your hand "like the spine" of an actual book, the refreshed Amazon Kindle Oasis is also more robust than all its forerunners, with an aluminum back, nonetheless weighing just 194 grams.

Amazon is releasing an updated version of its Kindle Oasis e-reader, now waterproofed for all your bathtub, ocean and rain storm reading needs. But what makes the new Kindle the ultimate e-reading machine?

If you really want a water-resistant ereader or you listen to a lot of audio books, the New Kindle Oasis is a worthy upgrade.

The all-new Kindle Oasis is available for pre-order today from Amazon. It has a rating of IPX8, which means it can withstand immersion in up to two meters of freshwater for up to 60 minutes. There's also a $279.99 32GB model and the $349.99 32GB model with free cellular connectivity (both without ads). It looks like there's no option for a battery-boosting charging case like the original any more, but when you've got weeks to find a power outlet for two hours, I think you're probably going to be OK.
