Sri Lanka 'over the moon' after downing Pakistan in Dubai

Wahab Riaz replaces injured Hassan Ali

Dubai-Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 68 runs in the second and final day-night Test in Dubai on Tuesday, clinching the series title. It was Azam's fifth duck in six matches this year.

It was also Pakistan's first home defeat since losing to South Africa 1-0 in 2007, a series held on home soil, and only the second whitewash in their history.

Both Shafiq and Ahmed batted confidently to raise hopes of Pakistan maintaining their unbeaten record in nine Test series in the United Arab Emirates, their adopted home since 2009.

Despite having lost five wickets for mere 34 runs in second innings, Sri Lanka still looks dominant over Pakistan in Second Test, considering the latter's shaky batting lineup and last two days.

Sri Lanka racked up 482 in its first innings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as Karunaratne made a career-best 196.

Pakistan were in the game on Day Five with only 119 runs remaining and 5 wickets in hand.

The effects of the vacuum left by the retirements of players like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan should be a cautionary tale for Pakistan.

"The main thing is our attitude and it makes lot of difference so everyone put their heart and soul in the practices, so when they come to the match they did well".

The two sides will play a five-match ODI series in the UAE after the conclusion of the Tests with the third T20I at Lahore earmarked for October 29 in Lahore.

"Test captaincy is a little hard and I've learnt a lot". But this morning, we had more than 120 runs to defend, so we all knew that in this session the ball will grip, as we have two experienced spinners in Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera.

Herath wrapped up Pakistan's innings when last man Wahab Riaz was caught by Chandimal. "I think we did not play good cricket", said Ahmed, captaining for the first time in Tests.

"The guys played some really outstanding cricket", Chandimal said.

The decision follows after he suffered a shin injury during the opening day's play in the ongoing Test against the same opposition in Dubai.

If everyone who reads our reporting, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure and we will be able to keep our and your perspective going.

That Sri Lanka had worrying moments in the fourth innings at all, however, was thanks to their own poor batting, after claiming a lead of 220. It was a tough series against India but we learnt a lot from it.
