Final arrest warrants issued against Nawaz's sons

Nawaz asked to refrain from confrontation

As the son-in-law of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lands back in the country, the National Accountability Bureau nabbed former army captain Muhammad Safdar at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. The court is likely to collect surety from Maryam and Safdar to ensure their appearance in the proceedings and then provide them copies of the references and records.

Both Capt Safdar and Maryam Nawaz are scheduled to appear before the court in connection with the NAB reference pertaining to London properties owned by the Sharif family.

Maryam, who is being groomed as Sharif's political successor, appeared in the court for the first time today.

On Monday, the NAB declared Sharif's sons, Hussain and Hassan, proclaimed offenders for repeatedly failing to appear before it.

The NAB has filed three cases of corruption and money laundering against Nawaz Sharif, his sons, Maryam, son-in-law, and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Kulsoom Nawaz, the wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, will undergo her first chemotherapy session in a United Kingdom hospital, her daughter announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court deposed Sharif in July following an investigation into corruption allegations against him and his family, making him the 15th prime minister in Pakistan's 70-year history to be ousted before completing a full term.

The court also barred Captain Safdar from leaving Pakistan without the court's permission.

Maryam Nawaz tweeted a picture of Kulsoom in the hospital, with Nawaz by her side, and thanked her followers for their "valuable prayers". The arrest of Safdar comes hours after he and his wife Maryam Nawaz were to appear before an anti-graft tribunal.

"Questions will be asked if the cases which started with Panama ended with Iqama (Job contract). The judges will have to answer the nation".

Hassan and Hussain, who are facing corruption cases in Pakistan, are residing in London. "Those who sent home representative of 20 crore people should also be brought to justice", she said. The seat had fallen vacant after her husband was disqualified by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.
