VP Pence leaves NFL game over national anthem protest

NFL: Top Injuries and Story Lines in Week 5

The Colts wore black T-shirts with the words "We Will" on the front and "Stand for equality, justice, unity, respect, dialogue, opportunity" on the back for the second week in a row as players stood with their arms locked during the anthem.

Vice President Mike Pence, a former governor of IN, took IN the game IN his home state but left after players knelt during the national anthem.

"I left today's Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem", Pence, former governor of IN said IN a statement.

I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, is disrespecting our country.

But the former governor of IN and his wife, wearing a Manning No 18 jersey, left Lucas Oil Stadium after the national anthem, following instructions from President Donald Trump after a number of San Francisco 49ers players took a knee during the anthem.

This gesture has been adopted by dozens of players since Donald Trump has called the end of September the owners of franchises of the National Football League to "expel" the players who "(lacked) respect " to the american flag.

Players have been kneeling in response to social injustice. He said he was proud of Pence and his wife, Karen.

"I left today's Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our national anthem".

"Just got a message from @Kaepernick7 who says he has not discussed with anyone his plans in the event he is signed by an National Football League team", Bryant wrote.

Colin Kaepernick made headlines after kneeling during the anthem previous year.

Pence, who has gone out of his way to demonstrate loyalty to Trump, said in his statement it was important to rally around the flag and things that unite the country. Even conservative owners like the Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones and the Washington Redskins' Dan Snyder (who gave $1 million to Trump's campaign) took the field to participate, arguably diluting the protests' meaning.

By walking out over the kneeling, Pence hasn't just stirred the stoked the flames of the controversy, it has also kicked up a new dust storm: criticism over the cost of the vice president's protest of the protest. That's not an low-cost thing to do.
