Dove Apologises For Racist Advertisements

IN TWEETS: Dove slammed for racist ad

The ad, which shows a woman changing from black to white after using a Dove product, has sparked outrage and accusations of racism.

Unilever's Dove has apologized for a Facebook ad decried as racist in a social-media backlash that began Friday afternoon.

The ad has since been deleted.

In the advert you can see a black woman taking off a brown t shirt with a white woman being revealed in the last image.

Makeup artist, Naomi Blake (Naythemua), reposted the image, which has since gone viral.

The ad has since been taken down, but not before people posted the images on social media.

And as Keith Boykin, a CNN political commentator pointed out, this is not the first time Dove has found itself in hot water for the way its advertised body wash.

Some Facebook users seemed to be spilt on the subject. "We deeply regret the offense it caused", the Dove tweeted.

Dove also issued a longer statement on Facebook, adding that it is "committed to representing the beauty of diversity". What were you going for, exactly?

"This is gross. You think people of color can just wash away their melanin and become white?"Another Facebook user, Angela Reinders, commented. Your creative director should be fired", Angela Reinders wrote on Facebook".

That campaign showed a "before" and "after" skin close-up with dark-skinned women standing in front of the "before" picture, with light-skinned woman standing in front of the "after" picture.

The brand has long prided itself on being inclusive, and frequently runs ads featuring women of all different backgrounds and body types as part of the "Real Beauty" campaign.

"All three women are meant to demonstrate the "after" product benefit".

On Sunday, The Guardian published another statement from Dove regarding the controversy over its latest ad. "We do not condone any activity or imagery that intentionally insults any audience".
