Senate Probes NNPC Gmd Baru Over Allegations of Corruption, Insubordination

Mr. Richards

There was a show of curiosity among pressmen on Friday at the end of the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of State For petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

Kachikwu who wore dark navy blue suit with stripe tie was escorted by his Personal Assistant.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Kachikwu, had accused the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, of alleged insubordination, due process abuse and maleficence leading to the award of contracts worth over $25 billion.

Three days ago, a letter surface online originating from the Petroleum minister and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari whom he had reportedly tried to gain hearing from unsuccessfully.

A spokesman for NNPC on Thursday said the state oil company was awaiting written confirmation of the motion from the Senate.

The Senate had also set up a panel to probe Baru, over allegations made against him.

Concerned that this relationship has stifled the growth of indigenous companies operating in the sector, the Senate resolved to constitute a committee to investigate the policy introduced by the current GMD of allocating products to Duke Oil and carry out a holistic investigation into the activities of NNPC Trading Company.

Tha biggest opposition party said it wonder how President Buhari can, after two and half years of being on the saddle still maintains the stale rhyme of meeting an empty treasury after all the hard evidence of huge funds left behind by the PDP led-Administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
