Fired Construction Worker Kills Foreman, Self at Job Site

The scene at the Waterline Square site at 9:47 a.m

A fired construction worker allegedly shot and killed his foreman before turning the gun on himself Thursday morning, New York Police Department officials told WABC-TV.

Christopher Sayers, the 37-year-old foreman of a high-rise building under construction on West 59th Street between 11th and 12th avenues, was found shot in the head on the 37th floor at about 7:15 a.m., police said. He was later found dead on the fifth floor of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

He then shot himself in the head in a bathroom, police said.

They say a weapon was also recovered.

Perry had reportedly been hinting at his deadly plan a day or two before carrying it out. A 9 mm semi-automatic gun was found at the scene. "[Sayers] gets along with everybody", Robert Pagan, who was working a few floors down from the shooting, told DNAinfo, adding that the suspected gunman "is a good guy, too, but he's a little insane, a little hot-headed". He got fired two days ago.

Workers who fled when the shooting occurred piled out into the street to watch as police and firefighters arrived. His last arrest was in 2005. Sayers and Perry were both carpenters with Local 212 New York City District Council of Carpenters, the tabloid stated. "He drinks his coffee, smokes a cigarette", said Greaves. "He told me no calmly, I gave him a hug and proceeded to go downstairs".

"It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to two union brothers today", Local 212 said in a statement, according to the Post.

"Our honest condolences to the family and friends of NYCDCC member Christopher Sayers who lost his life to reckless workplace violence at 645 W. 59th St", the spokeswoman said.
