Miley Cyrus sings "The Climb" to honor Las Vegas shooting victims

Miley Cyrus

On Wednesday, Clinton went on The Tonight Show to promote her book on the 2016 presidential election, What Happened.

"When we broke up, he wanted to get away from me", she told Howard Stern on his radio show Thursday.

"You've been a role model and an inspiration, and a voice of reason in uncertain times", continued Cyrus, who hit the campaign trail for Clinton during the 2016 race.

Musical guest Miley Cyrus also joined the Thank Hillary bandwagon in the segment's most touching moment, needing to take an extra moment before reading her card and beginning to cry as she talked about how Clinton is a "beacon of strength, hope, and determination for me and millions of other young women".

After some of Fallon's female writers took turns reading amusing, but touching notes, to Clinton, with her looking on, Miley came out and struck a more serious tone.

"Thank you, Hillary Clinton, for handling this hard transition with more grace than I ever could have imagined", the second writer said before taking a silly turn.

Donald Trump received heavy criticism for his delayed response to the hurricane damage in Puerto Rico and Hillary Clinton believes she eventually influenced the president to act.

That got a laugh from Clinton. "Thank you, Hillary, for always sticking to the issues even as people criticize you for superficial things like your hair, your wardrobe, and your appearance". And there was something he had to do: give his female writers an opportunity to thank her in person. Then, after being showered with kind words, Clinton took a seat behind the desk herself to pen her own note. The song, which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in June, includes the lyrics: "never would've believed you/ If three years ago you told me/ I'd be here writing this song". And we won't stop'".

'As Miley would say: We can't stop and we won't stop'.

"I got my hug!" the 24-year-old former Disney Channel star wrote on Instagram.

"In honor of the lives lost, injured and affected by the tragic shooting in Vegas, @fallontonight & I dedicated this show to not only mourning this horrific event but using this platform to encourage unity, peace & hopefulness!"
