Nifty ends at new peak of 10153.10, Sensex rises 151 points

The 30-share Sensex too was in bullish form, rising 235.45 points, or 0.72 per cent, at 32,508.06.

At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 1.86 points or 0.01% at 32,400.51, 17 components registering drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 6.40 points or 0.06%, at 10,141.15.35 components registering drop.

At 12.30 p.m., the wider Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) traded at 10,144.95 points - fractionally lower by 2.60 points or 0.03 per cent - from its previous session's close. FII's passive trading approach with capital inflow limited to primary market and debt also might have weighed down the momentum.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said: "Markets continued to remain range bound as investors were stuck with a wait and watch approach ahead of the statement of FOMC meeting". Bharti Airtel, the nation's largest mobile phone operator, ended 0.4% higher after slumping as much as 6% earlier in the day. It closed at Rs 847.10 per share - up 0.85 per cent.

HeromotoCorp fell the most by 2.29 per cent among Sensex scrips. The five biggest losers were Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Tata Steel, ONGC and Lupin.

The domestic steelmaker announced signing of an agreement with Thyssenkrupp to merge their steel operations in Europe in a 50:50 joint venture company.

Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 125.55 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought equities of Rs 418.86 crore on Friday, showed provisional data.

Key Indian equity indices provisionally closed on a flat note - marginally in the red - on Wednesday as investors booked profits in automobile, consumer durables and banking stocks.

Broader markets such as mid and small cap indices slipped form record highs.
