Beware of Georgia Power post-Irma scams!

Post-Irma Utilities Face ‘One of the Largest Industry Restoration Efforts in U.S. History

"The destruction from Hurricane Irma was unprecedented across Georgia, and throughout the Southeast, and I'm extremely proud of and thankful for the work and dedication of our teams to restore service to almost all impacted customers ahead of schedule", said Paul Bowers, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power. The highest number of outages is in Highlands County, Florida, where some 84 percent of those in the central peninsula area remain without power.

Some Florida utilities, including FPL, warned customers it could take weeks to restore power in the hardest hit areas. The company is on track to restore power to 95 percent of all customers impacted by Hurricane Irma, who can accept power, by Saturday night - 24 hours ahead of schedule. JEA reported 1,287 households without power, down from a peak of 12,904.

"We just wanted to reach out and say thank you for everything that you do, for your continued support, for your patience and we want you to know that we are making progress", Stone said.

"Georgia Power continues to work with customers who are behind on payments or need to make payment arrangements through its usual customer service process", the statement reads.

FPL said on Wednesday it had provided power to some parts of a nursing home where people died after the facility lost electricity during Irma and that the home was not on a list "critical facilities" prioritized for emergency power restoration. Value, Reliability, Customer Service and Stewardship are the cornerstones of the company's promise to 2.5 million customers in all but four of Georgia's 159 counties.

Georgia Power spokeswoman Ashley West said Thursday that the company's top priority is the safety of the workers and said their thoughts and prayers are with the lineman's family.
