Jose Downgraded to Tropical Storm: NHC

Here are some of the records Hurricane Irma blew away

Some restrengthening should begin on Friday, and Jose is predicted to become a Category 1 hurricane again by the weekend.

The so-called cone of uncertainty for Tropical Storm Jose now includes North Carolina's Outer Banks after the National Hurricane Center shifted its forecast west Thursday.

"This evolution will cause Jose to make a slow clockwise loop during the next 3 days and then turn northward and northwestward once it moves around the western side of the ridge", forecasters wrote this morning.

However, as of last night, its closest point to Bermuda, 313 nautical miles to the south-southwest, had already passed. It's moving northwest at 7 miles per hour and is expected to turn northwest on Saturday.

Now, as steering currents in the Atlantic remain weak, Jose has encountered wind shear in the atmosphere, weakening it into a tropical storm. The future path for Jose seems to change everyday, however it is now inching closer to the east coast of the U.S. Higher surf and swells are possible along the east coast, but not many other direct effects are expected.

AccuWeather hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski said Jose was expected to fluctuate between a minimal hurricane and tropical storm over the next several days. The swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and risky rip currents.
