White House: Jemele Hill's Tweets about Trump are a 'fireable offense'

Twitter

SportsCenter host Jemele Hill was wrong.

Setting the bar at street level, ESPN's Jemele Hill tweeted yesterday that President Donald Trump is a bigot and the worst president of her lifetime.

The tweets about President Trump spun out of Hill's link to a report about performer Kid Rock (aka Robert Ritchie).

He then asked Fox Sports' Clay Travis what he thought of her attack, and Clay found the network's statement to be another example of Hill's politics "going all the way to the top".

ESPN has not yet announced if Hill will receive any type of suspension. The network stated her comments "do not represent the position of ESPN" and that after discussing the matter with Hill she realizes "her actions were inappropriate". Pretty amusing how scared I have them all and their only agenda is to try and label people / me racist who do not agree or cower to them! Free agent and activist, Colin Kaepernick also tweeted in solidarity with Hill, writing "we are with you!"

In June, ESPN released a study it commissioned that found the vast majority of viewers detected no bias in its content and 64 percent of those surveyed believed ESPN was striking the right mix of sports news and political issues.

"If you're a Republican or conservative, you feel the need to talk in whispers", one conservative ESPN employee said.

As you may have heard, ratings are noticeably down at the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

The network has reoriented its programming more toward opinion and debate, encouraging some hosts to veer away from sports.

Hill did not respond to a message from The News seeking a comment.

Hill was suspended for a week in 2008 after writing in a column that "rooting for the Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim". "It's like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan".

The network issued a statement saying she'd been given a talking to, but there appears to be no meaningful disciplinary action to date.

According to the Washington Post, ESPN has fired people over posting controversial comments on social media comments.

The answer to that is a slam-dunk.
