Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon is now locked down following reports of an active shooter in the hospital.

The hospital said in a statement the building is now on lockdown "following reports of an active shooter in the hospital".

Following reports of an active shooter, the hospital went into lockdown mode, according to a Dartmouth-Hitchcock statement.

Mike Barwell, media relations manager, told NH1 News police were on their way to the hospital around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

TV reports claimed that all workers received an email from the hospital about a "code silver", telling them to get out if possible or otherwise stay put.

Federal, state and local law enforcement officials are responding to reports of an active shooter at New Hampshire's largest hospital.

Several witnesses driving along Interstate I-89 reported seeing heavy State Police presence at all exits.

According to a tweet from hospital officials at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, police are now on site.

The NH Attorney General's office confirmed the incident was under control, and said more information will be released as soon as it's available.
