Xiaomi Introduced MI A1 the Flagship Dual Camera

Opinions

The phone might also release in the USA later.

The device has nearly same hardware as Mi 5X. This is an old project which Google is looking to infuse new life into with this new partnership with Xiaomi. The body to screen ratio varies as the Mi A1 has 70.1 percentage of screen to body ratio while the K8 Note comes with 70.95 percentage.

Now, Xiaomi is on top of its game and is cruising to become India's new number one smartphone brand dethroning Samsung. Other than this, it comes with a bloatware-free Android experience and confirmation from the company that the device will get at least two more Android OS updates.

As expected Chinese smartphone Xiaomi has launched its first ever smartphone under Google's Android One platform in India called Xiaomi Mi A1. It is a lot more powerful than the predecessor Android One phones, and has a very premium design. At one point, it even looked like Google had pulled the plug on Android One, which the company declined. But at a price of Rs 14,999, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is not really a flawless device.

So, Google is now playing a game by partnering with its rival itself- Xiaomi. "Android One was launched to target the low-end users in the developing countries".

Let's not forget why Android One failed at the first place. We still strongly believe Android One for "billions" is a far better proposition than Android One's current "for all range smartphones" strategy. But this time, we've a Xiaomi device with stock Android. That besides the fact that the company is known to kill some key Android features just so it can maintain uniformity across its devices is a subject of much debate. Well, time will answer these questions.

Yet, anyone who follows Xiaomi's progress will know that earlier this year, Xiaomi launched the Mi 5X in China, which not only looks identical to the Mi A1, but also sports the same hardware specifications.

Other specs include a 3,080 mAh battery with a custom 380-volt charger created to protect the battery from sudden power spikes.

The display was impressive as it produces vivid colours with fair amount of accuracy. Performance is buttery smooth on this device, thanks to the stock Android. It has the excellent battery of about 3080mAh. Having said that, this is the smaller battery smartphone released in India this year because the entry-level Redmi 4A has a 3120mAh battery unit.

The 5.5-inch display on the Mi A1 has a resolution of 1,920x1,080p. Android One is supposed to be totally stock Android, but since Google's camera app doesn't support a dual-camera setup, the Mi A1 ships with Xiaomi's camera app. It will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is actually a mid-range smartphone, it is fueled by the Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor, and it packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage.

The other smartphones with Android One initiative that were launched in other countries but India are General Mobile 4G, General Mobile 5 Plus, General Mobile 6, Infinix Hot 2 X510, Cherry Mobile One G1, Bq Aquaris A4.5, Sharp S1, Sharp 507SH amongst many.

Xiaomi hyped the camera so much in this smartphone. At 165g, the Mi A1 is not as light as the LG Q6 (149g), but grips well. Xiaomi is also promising 2X optical zoom on this smartphone, which is something you won't find on most budget phones with dual-rear cameras. I haven't tested out the camera yet.
