The Celtic midfielder, who is one booking from a suspension, did not retaliate during the game but instead told reporters just what he thought about the alleged second-half incident after the final whistle.

The Celtic midfielder told reporters: "He did spit on me, he is a frightful b*****d".

Gordon Strachan's side need to win all their remaining games if they are to have any realistic chance of getting to the 2018 tournament in Russian Federation after a disappointing start to the campaign.

"It's all to play for and everyone's fighting for that spot and they'll want it as much as we do".

'We have put ourselves in a position now where we go into the final couple of games still with a chance of getting to the play-offs'.

England, Scotland and Northern Ireland all won on a great night for the home nations, with Michael O'Neill's men all but sealing a playoff place in Group C and Gareth Southgate's side needing only two points to win Group F. "We knew we had to win our game and then just hope they gave us a helping hand", Brown added.

"I know they have a game on Friday but next week is the big one for them, with all due respect to Hamilton".

"I was hoping to get a few forward players on - because of the injuries, it was a bit of a problem". "We'd like to stop them tomorrow, but it won't be easy".

"Hopefully we can replicate the last few performances, though, and get the result". So it's been a good eight days for the players.

"Seriously I didn't even think about it".

Asked if the performance against England has reinforced his conviction that Malta can cause a shock at Hampden Park, Ghedin replied: "Every time I wish to take a point but it's not easy". The UK side is undefeated in its last three games in the qualifiers and is coming off a 3-0 win against Lithuania.
