The complaint alleges that Varnell initially wanted to blow up the Federal Reserve Building in Washington, D.C. with a device that was similar to the one used in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Varnell loaded what he thought was a bomb into a van and attempted to detonate it. "The hour of revolution has arrived", he also proclaimed. The informant backed up these claims with screenshots of conversations with Varnell.

A Sayre man was arrested over the weekend, accused of plotting to detonate a vehicle bomb at a downtown Oklahoma City bank.

"I'm determined to bust some skulls", the protest cites Varnell's writings. Amid the meeting, it says Varnell said he held "III% belief system" and needed "to begin the following insurgency", a reference to the "Three Percenters" nationalist development - started in 2008, stirred by President Barack Obama's decision - and that has aroused against firearm control endeavors and vows imperviousness to the central government over the encroachment of protected rights. But when the undercover agent told him in June that any bombing might kill one or more people, Mr. Varnell responded, "You got to break a couple of eggs to make an omelet", according to the affidavit.

He identified BancFirst as the target, prepared a statement to be posted on social media after the explosion, helped assemble a fake explosive device, helped load it into what he believed was a stolen van and drove the van from El Reno to BancFirst in downtown Oklahoma City, and dialed a number on a cellular telephone that he believed would trigger the explosion.

"It was a wake-up call to both the government and the people", Mr. Varnell's statement said, according to the authorities. Mr. Varnell sought to form and arm a small militia group, inspired in part by the movie "Fight Club", the authorities said.

The Oklahoman newspaper reported that Varnell had a history of mental health issues, including a domestic assault and battery charge for an alleged attempt to choke his now ex-wife.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the Western District of Oklahoma yesterday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested 23-year-old Jerry Drake Varnell of Sayre after he attempted to detonate the device, which was actually inert.

Asked if Varnell has retained an attorney or received court-appointed representation, Yancey's office told TPM that his legal representation would be discussed when he makes his initial appearance in court at 3 p.m. local time.
