Iran's parliament ratifies motion to counter U.S. "terrorist" acts in region

Iran Allocates $520Mln for Missile Program in Response to New US Sanctions - AFP

On July 18, the U.S. Administration announced putting on a blacklist 18 organizations and persons, supporting the Iranian ballistic missile program, Iran's military purchases and IRGC.

The bill allows for a boost in spending on Tehran's missile program and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' defense mechanism.

A total of 240 lawmakers voted for the bill, out of the 244 parliamentarians present.

In a defiant response to new United States sanctions against Tehran, Iran's parliament approved a bill to strengthen its missile program.

The Iranian plan would require Iran's government and armed forces to draw up a strategy to counter USA violations of human rights around the world, and to support Iranian bodies and individuals affected by American sanctions.

Deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi told members of parliament that the government supported the new bill.

"The bill has very wisely tried not to violate the JCPOA (nuclear deal) and also give no chance to the other party to manipulate it", Araqchi said.

The Iranian legislation must pass a second vote before submission for final approval.

Washington and European countries that negotiated the Iran nuclear deal have called the missile tests violations of the spirit of the 2015 accord, but not its letter.

Iran denies developing ballistic missiles created to carry nuclear weapons in violation of the agreement and has accused the USA of breaking its word by imposing fresh sanctions.

To counter United States economic sanctions, the government has been ordered to provide a comprehensive plan on expanding economic cooperation with world countries, especially Iran's neighbors and friends as well as the countries which have likewise been subject to Washington's embargoes.
