Taylor Swift in court over claims she was 'groped' by DJ

Taylor Swift in court over groping case

Mueller, 55, who was sacked from his USA $150,000-a-year job (more than Rs 98 lakhs) at radio station KYGO-FM over Swift's accusations, insisted that the case he brought against Swift was about more than just the loss of his livelihood and money.

Swift's attorney Douglas Baldridge said that the Swift was "taking a stand for all women" and that "this is a case of sexual assault in the workplace".

Jurors hearing the case were picked earlier in the day from a pool of 16 prospective jurors.

Taylor Swift playing the first of two sold out shows at the Pepsi Center on her most recent tour for the album 1989. Mueller also said he spilled water on a second computer, and accidentally smashed an iPad.

"I love how she's suing him for one dollar because she doesn't need the money but she wants to make it a point that women don't need to take this", said Vega Zaringlee, 12.

Taylor Swift is no stranger to making empowering statements, but she is using an unconventional method to send a message this week: a lawsuit. Swift is expected to testify.

Everyone in the picture is smiling, and Mueller's right hand is hidden behind Swift. Mueller maintained his hand was in a fist, and thus he could not have groped her butt.

"She's just trying to tell people out there that you can say no when someone puts their hand on you", Baldridge said.

The photo of that meet-and-greet, which was leaked previous year and shown in court on Tuesday, will be a central piece of evidence in the trial. Mueller says he was looking ahead at the camera the entire time while he and Swift were "jostling" arms.

Arthur Lewis, also 32 and a real estate agent, said he's "a big supporter of Taylor Swift and just wanted to check it out".

Mueller describes the photo as "awkward", and says it's fair that his general manager at KYGO, Bob Call, could consider it "weird and awkward" as well. A 2013 photo (above) of Swift, Mueller and Mueller's girlfriend taken at the pre-concert event in Denver is a key piece of evidence in Mueller's suit. "It's a humiliating experience to be accused of something that despicable", Mueller testified, claiming he's been unable to find a job since his dismissal.

But Baldridge, Swift's attorney, said the pop star was sure it was Mueller who touched her. Baldridge also argued that Mueller had repeatedly changed his story and had destroyed evidence in the case leading up to trial.

"My hand was closed", Mueller said.

Why is David Mueller and Taylor Swift in court? He frequently challenged Mueller's statements by referring him back to his deposition testimony, rereading sections verbatim and then asking, "Did I read that correctly?"

The attorneys for both parties are now in another private sidebar conference that was called for in the middle of cross-examination on Mueller.

David Mueller has been accused of sexually assaulting the superstar during a photo opportunity before a concert in 2013.
