Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez to miss Arsenal opener against Leicester

Arsene Wenger doesn't expect PSG to be in touch with a bid for Alexis Sanchez.

I think, if you read the French papers, [Kylian] Mbappe is how they will look to finish their transfer market.

Although Wenger insisted several times that Sanchez would not be sold, he confirmed that the forward would miss Friday's Premier League clash at home to Leicester besides a trip to Stoke the following weekend.

"Yes", Wenger said in July, as quoted by The Daily Telegraph.

"He had a little abdominal strain that he caught in training on Sunday morning before he came to Wembley", said the coach, per Sky Sports News.

Wenger also refused to comment on speculation linking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with London rivals Chelsea.

"I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruña", he said. "I don't know if it's two weeks, or one more week", Wenger told a news conference on Wednesday.

Wenger said he would not have started Sanchez against Leicester even if he had been fit, but acknowledged that he will be missed.

"When a player goes into the final year of their contract we will try to extend the contract because there is no reason we shouldn't do it, but we are not there yet".

With Arsenal failing to qualify for this season's UEFA Champions League, Sanchez, who was Arsenal's top scorer in the league with 24 goals last season, has been heavily linked with a move away from The Emirates although Wenger has repeatedly said this offseason that the Chile global is not for sale.

"And anyway, we play other competitions".

We also have concerns in midfield as Aaron Ramsey remains a doubt to take on Leicester after missing the Community Shield with a calf injury while Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are all ruled out through injury.

"He's very conscious of his qualities, he was not always".

"I will focus more on the players who had the right number of competitive minutes in recent weeks".
