Rockstar Sued Over Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Psychic Character Likeness

Miss Cleo's Estate Sues 'Grand Theft Auto' for Look Alike Character Psychic Readers Network says her depiction is way too spot

According to TMZ, PRN's claim that Rockstar has made more than $500 million exploiting Miss Cleo's likeness, even going so far as to recruit Youree Harris (the actor who played the character) to voice Auntie Poulet.

Auntie Poulet was leader of Vice City's Haitian gang and gives missions to protagonist Tommy Vercetti that will help her take on a rival Cuban gang. "Both Miss Cleo and Auntie Poulet are said to be trained in Voodoo, have a strong link to the occult, are of Afro-Caribbean origin, and reside in South Florida".

Unfortunately Miss Cleo died in July 2016 so the suit has been brought by Psychic Readers Network, although one has to ask the question why the lawsuit has been filed now given that Vice City first launched in 2002, 15 years ago.

"These claims are entirely meritless and completely ridiculous. We will vigorously defend ourselves with regard to this matter". The suit claims it's because Rockstar continues to make money from re-releases of the game on mobile and through the PS2 Classics program on PS4. Much like Lindsay Lohan's more timely lawsuit over a claim that her likeness had been used for a character Grand Theft Auto 5 without her permission, the Vice City lawsuit claims that the likeness of an individual was used without permission. Youree Dell Harris, the actress who portrayed the TV psychic and who died previous year, even voiced Poulet, which is her only videogame credit.
