Stallings Leads Field After Third Round of Barbasol Championship

Stallings- Barbasol Championship Golf

Stallings' 19-under 194 total is a new 54-hole tournament record and is the lowest 54-hole lead in relation to par this season on the PGA TOUR since Justin Thomas was 22-under-par at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Murray arrived in Alabama a week earlier after suddenly finding himself with an open weekend.

Murray failed to qualify for last week's John Deere Classic and stood 124th in the FedEx Cup rankings before the Opelika tournament. He jumped to 58th.

Needing par at 18 to avoid a playoff, Murray hit the green from 165 yards out and two-putted to clinch the win at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Grand National.

"To get into the play-offs, that was my goal this year", Murray said. A tap-in for par on No. 18 left him waiting to see if Murray would stumble. "I didn't set my goals too high for my first year".

Collins, who led by four shots after 36 holes, was even for the day before posting three consecutive birdies on Nos.

Murray hung his head in disgust after pulling his seven-iron approach shot at the par-five, fearing his ball would find a greenside bunker, but it barely cleared the sand before taking a big bounce and then a hard right turn, trickling down to within five feet of the hole. "It was a nervy bad putt". And the more times I'm able to do that and put myself in that situation, maybe one day it will be my day.

Collins tied for fourth at The Honda Classic and his best previous finish was third past year in the Texas Open. This was the 33-year-old's 35th career TOUR start and second top 10, eclipsing a previous-best T7 two starts ago at the Greenbrier. You can only draw positives from it.

Murray took the US$630,000 (S$857,000) top prize after finishing 72 holes on 21-under par 263 with Collins second on 264 and Brian Gay, Tag Ridings and Scott Stallings next in an all-US top 10 on 265.

Amateur Sam Burns of LSU tied for sixth at 18 under after a 66, matching Ryan Blaum (64) and Cameron Tringale (68).
